It’s that time of the month again when I talk through the things I’ve been loving. I’ve been loving quite a lot this month so it’s been a great month for favourites. Though, is it just me, or did January last forever?
I’m looking forward to see what February brings!
TV and Films
I have watched a LOT of TV programmes and films this month…and I’ve really enjoyed most of them!
Sex Education Season 2 (Netflix)
I loved the first season and I loved the second season even more! The programme is lighthearted, funny and relatable, as well as being mature and inspirational in its messages. The show is so much more than its title suggests – though it does indeed educate the audience on sex education, it also teaches the audience about identity. Not to mention the soundtrack is absolutely fabulous!
This epic World War 1 one-shot film directed by Sam Mendes is incredible! The film focuses on the journey of Lance Corporals’ Blake and Schofield as they attempt to deliver a message to the frontline calling off an impending attack that the British learn is a trap. It’s fast-paced, intense, and visually very beautiful. Whilst watching it I was reminded of reading Wilfred Owen’s war poetry in school; the film has that melancholy mood throughout, as well as the suspense, and constant visual references to nature. It’s a roller-coaster journey from start to finish and deserves all the accolades it is receiving.
The Personal History of David Copperfield
I love anything Charles Dickens related so of course I was going to see this film! It’s delicious to watch, featuring bright colours, beautiful costumes, nostalgic scenery… It’s got a fast narrative so you never feel bored and is the most wonderful form of escapism if, like me, you love anything and everything Dickens and Victorian. I loved that the film celebrates the perfect characterisation that Dickens was so wonderful at and I thought the casting was spot-on.
Some other films and TV programmes I loved this month:
- The King
- Happy Valley Season 1
- Marriage Story
- Wild Rose
- Little Women
- White House Farm (ITV)
- Deadwater Fell (C4)
- The Trial of Christine Keeler (BBC)
Visiting Lake Bled
January was the month that I went on my first holiday of the year (hopefully the first of many!). If you want to read more about my trip to Lake Bled, check out my blog post here.
I loved visiting Lake Bled – it was such a peaceful and serene place; perfect for when you want to get away from the city, away from your job, and just enjoy some time in nature.
I decided that 2020 was going to be the year I started a bullet journal. I’ve always kept a journal that I write in every single night any events of the day, my thoughts, feelings and anything I want to get off my chest. But of late, I’ve started to write down my sleeping pattern. I kept a record of this for a couple of months last year, but sort of lost the will to do it. I decided bullet journalling would be the perfect solution. I might do a more in-depth blog post about my bullet journalling, how I started it and any tips for beginners (as I’m very much still a beginner myself!) Do you bullet journal? I’d love to hear your tips!
Home (30-Day Yoga Challenge)
I love doing yoga and try to do it every single day (though this doesn’t always work out – I really wish it did). Over the few years that I’ve practiced yoga, I fell in love with Yoga with Adriene’s Youtube videos. She’s a fantastic yoga teacher, very relatable, calming and helpful with alterations you can do for certain moves that might not agree with your body. She’s quite well known for doing her 30-day yoga challenges and I’ve followed a couple of them before. When I heard she was doing another one in January, I was very excited and it’s been great so far! Little disclaimer though; I never actually complete the challenges in 30 days. Unfortunately life gets in the way a lot and I can’t always keep up. But as long as I’m practicing yoga, I like to think it doesn’t really matter!
Reaching 200 Followers!
I was over-the-moon to discover that I had reached 200 followers on this blog. Though that may not seem like a lot to some people, it means a lot to me and I’m very grateful that you want to spend time with me, read my blog posts, and send me all your lovely comments! Every time someone presses that follow button, leaves a comment on my posts or presses that little star, it makes me feel so inspired to write more and make this blog even better. This blog also keeps me sane working 9-5 in London (so thank you for being a great form of escapism too!)
What have you been loving this month? Let me know in the comments below.
Thanks for reading.
Love, Zoë xx
