I hope you all had an amazing Christmas with your friends and family, if you celebrate it.
This post is going to be all about the things I’ve been loving in the month of December.
TV and Films
A Christmas Carol (BBC Adaptation)
By now, you’d think I’d be bored of any sort of A Christmas Carol adaptation having seen nearly all the adaptations there are to offer. However, I was not expecting the new BBC adaptation to be so different!
This adaptation hasn’t got the most amazing reviews and, although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I can’t help but feel that people didn’t warm to it because it was slightly different, slightly off-piste of the usual tale, with slightly more violence and profanity, that was slightly more accusatory of humanity and our obsession with money…
This version is dark and gritty (but Dickens’ work was hardly light and fluffy, was it?). I thought Andy Serkis, Stephen Graham and Guy Pearce were incredible in it. It’s written by Steven Knight, one of the writers of TV show Peaky Blinders (that I also love) and you can definitely pick up on a lot of the grittiness that Peaky Blinders has.
If you’re looking for something a little bit different (believe me, this is as far from the Muppets Christmas Carol as possible) then this is the TV programme for you!
Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special
The one we’ve all been waiting for…
I’ll admit, I was quite worried about the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special. I was worried that the characters and the actors, 10 years on, would have lost some of the originality of their characters. But I was not disappointed. The Christmas Special was exactly like the old episodes and like nothing had ever changed! The idea that there could potentially be more episodes makes me very, very excited!
Food and Drink
Hot Spiced Apple Cider
I’ve become obsessed with hot spiced apple cider ever since discovering it a local pub this festive season. It’s the absolute perfect drink for the cold nights indoors, or (my favourite way to drink it), sitting outside at the pub, next to the heater with amazing views of London. I’ve become so in love with this drink that I ever attempted to make it myself this Christmas. The recipe I used was this one from Sainsbury’s.
I’ve really been loving that feeling of new beginnings on the horizon and anticipation in the air for 2020. Although it means heading back to work, I can’t help but feel excited for all the amazing trips and days I have planned already and all the amazing stuff that I know will come.
Being a true Virgo, you know that I love organisation, making lists, new beginnings and that “new term at school” feeling, and that’s definitely something that the new year for me encompasses.
What are your plans for 2020?
What did you love this December?
Thanks for reading!
Love, Zoë xx
