24 Things for 24 Years

Hi everyone,

Saturday 7th September was my 24th birthday. Apparently this is still young, though it feels kind of old to me haha.

I wanted to write a quite post about the things I’ve learnt the past 24 years. So here it is…!

#1 Learn to be independent and comfortable in your own company

#2 Choose your friends and people you surround yourself with wisely – you are a product of your environment

#3 Educate yourself – the education system is pretty s**t and it won’t teach you the things you need to know. The important lessons. So take it upon yourself to read, read, and then read some more.

#4 You will be ok. Whatever happens and whatever life throws at you, you will cope (as you have coped many times before).

#5 Your interests and personality are unusual and unique. Love them, and hope that your life will be unusual and unique too.

#6 You will find your people. Whether that be in your favourite author, a book character, your favourite waitress at your favourite café, or a boy who walks into your Spanish class late (*cough* my boyfriend)

#7 Be kind. But not naive.

#8 You will never truly know how strong you are until you have to. You will most definitely surprise yourself at the times when you think you can’t possibly go on.

#9 Don’t worry when your body starts to change, as it undoubtedly will every year of your life. Embrace that journey with yourself.

#10 Break the rules occasionally, but try not to hurt anyone in the process!

#11 Travel! Explore the world, see it through a different lens (though not your phone camera lens – something I’m still learning)

#12 Do not judge people. Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about.

#13 Follow whatever gives you joy and discard that which doesn’t. Be ruthless with this.

#14 You don’t need to have all the answers – life is a journey and you’re learning every step of the way.

#15 Drink water (but balance this with a glass of wine if you need to indulge yourself!)

#16 Appreciate the small things and don’t get bogged down with the bigger picture all the time – sometimes it’s the best thing to have a lovely cup of tea, a hug with a friend, to read a good book, to watch a beautiful sunset…

#17 Comparison is the thief of joy – no one is like you, and you are like no one else.

#18 Be grateful – this is hard. We get distracted by all the things going wrong in our lives that we sometimes forget to be grateful for what we do have.

#19 Have a good skin care routine – your skin will thank you later.

#20 Go in the sea as much as you can – it’s the best way to make yourself feel small.

#21 Be kind to the planet.

#22 Learn how to say NO – this is your life and you live it how you want to.

#23 Be opinionated – form your own opinions on politics, the news and current affairs. Don’t let anyone try and change these BUT be open to hearing the other side.

#24 Don’t waste time worrying about things that you cannot control – when it’s done, it’s done. Let it go and don’t hold on to so much negativity.
