Favourite Quotes from the Last Books I Read

Hi everyone,

Today I’m going to be talking through my favourite quotes from the books I’ve read in August. Check out my August wrap-up if you want to hear more about my thoughts on these books!

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara

“He loses his power when we know his face.”

“She was both proud of the fact that she had raised a strong-minded daughter and resentful of my sharp opinions.”

“One day soon, you’ll hear a car pull up to your curb, an engine cut out. You’ll hear footsteps coming up your front walk. Like they did for Edward Wayne Edwards, twenty-nine years after he killed Timothy Hack and Kelly Drew, in Sullivan, Wisconsin. Like they did for Kenneth Lee Hicks, thirty years after he killed Lori Billingsley, in Aloha, Oregon.

The doorbell rings.

No side gates are left open. You’re long past leaping over a fence. Take one of your hyper, gulping breaths. Clench your teeth. Inch timidly toward the insistent bell.

This is how it ends for you.

“You’ll be silent forever, and I’ll be gone in the dark,” you threatened a victim once.

Open the door. Show us your face.

Walk into the light.”

Now We Shall Be Entirely Free by Andrew Miller

“…the thought that had touched him several times since coming back from Spain, that we are not private beings and cannot hide things inside ourselves. Everything is present, everything in view for those who know how to look.”

“It was the time of day when shadows are more real than the men who cast them.”

Votes for Women by Jenni Murray

“My own sex, I hope, will excuse me, if I treat them like rational creatures, instead of flattering their fascinating graces, and viewing them as if they were in a state of perpetual childhood, unable to stand alone” – Mary Wollstonecraft

“The government will tear the stars from the sky before they break the spirit of women in this country” – Christabel Pankhurst

“I do not want them to have power over men, but over themselves… It is not empire, but equality and friendship which women want” – Mary Wollstonecraft

What were some of your favourite quotes from your recently read books?

Thanks for reading!

Love, Zoë xx
