Favourite Quotes from the Last Books I Read

Hi everyone,

It seems this is now becoming a regular occurence on my blog (and I’m ok with that). Here’s another installment of my favourite quotes from the last books I read.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling

“Besides, the world isn’t split into good people

and Death Eaters. We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”

“The consequences of our actions are always so complicated, so diverse, that predicting the future is a very difficult business indeed.”

“You think the dead we loved truly ever leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly in times of great trouble?”
“Don’t let the muggles get you down.”

Paris by Julian Green

“and at that point the church quietly articulated these words, which tell us something of the secret of old buildings: ‘The worse I am threatened, the lovelier I become.”

“I have always thought that by observing things with a great deal of attention you eventually wrest some of their secrets from them, making them utter what they would most like to keep to themselves.”

“Paris … is loath to surrender itself to people who are in a hurry; it belongs to the dreamers.…”

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling

“If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”

“Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.”

“Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.”

“It is a strange thing, but when you are dreading something, and would give anything to slow down time, it has a disobliging habit of speeding up.”

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

“Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts.”

“I looked at the stars, and considered how awful it would be for a man to turn his face up to them as he froze to death, and see no help or pity in all the glittering multitude.”

“Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but – I hope – into a better shape.”

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”
“So, I must be taken as I have been made. The success is not mine, the failure is not mine, but the two together make me.”

What are some of your favourite quotes you have read recently?

Thanks for reading
