Oh, this post was a hard one. How could I narrow down all my favourite moments from the Harry Potter series to just 7? Heck, the whole time I read/watch Harry Potter is my favourite moment!
But here’s my attempt…
#7 The Shrieking Shack in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
I love the dialogue in this moment and the combination of characters; a furious Harry, Ron with a broken-leg, Lupin and Hermione trying to play peace-makers, a revengeful Sirius and then a silent and creeping Snape. The dialogue, in both the book and the film, is so fast and quick-witted and it’s a pleasure to watch or read!
#6 Dumbledore’s Army in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I loved reading and seeing the dynamics of all the different characters within Dumbledore’s Army; they’re all at different stages of wizardry “skills” and they’re all joining Dumbledore’s Army for different reasons. I think it’s a great moment where we really see how serious they all are about preparing for Voldemort.
#5 The Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
I always imagined, or rather hoped, that the Yule Ball would be what my prom looked like; ice-sculptures, Christmas trees… Unfortunately it wasn’t quite like that haha. But this remains one of my favourite moments of the Harry Potter series, just because it’s such a welcome break from all the darkness that’s occurring. It’s great to see (some) of the characters let loose and enjoy themselves.
#4 Visiting Diagon Alley for the first time in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
I honestly felt the same way Harry did when I first read and saw Diagon Alley; “Harry wished he had about eight more eyes. He turned his head in every direction as they walked up the street, trying to look at everything at once: the shops, the things outside them, the people doing their shopping.” Diagon Alley is the first time that we get a taste for the wizarding world!
#3 The Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
From start to finish, this is one of the best moments in the Harry Potter series. From the statues coming to life and guarding the castle, from Neville becoming a bad-ass, to Harry killing Voldemort and the celebrations afterwards. I remember reading this chapter for the first time back when the Deathly Hallows was first released and now every time I have read it since then, it still feels the same; just as exciting and new and shocking!
#2 Harry walking to meet Voldemort and knowing it’s the last few moments of his life in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Probably one of the most emotional moments, but I think this makes it one of the most beautiful and raw moments of the whole series. I feel like everything sort of comes full-circle in this moment.
#1 The beginning in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
“Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn’t hold with such nonsense…”. The first lines and the first point-of-call for entering Harry’s world ❤
So there we go! My attempts at trying to choose some of my favourite moments from the Harry Potter series. I really hope you’re enjoying my Harry Potter month so far (let me know down below!) and I really hope you enjoyed this post. What are your favourite moments from the Harry Potter series?
